Hi
This is actually advice needed for my mother. No matter how many times I've told her to come on here, she is shy and not a techno-addict
Anyway my mother lives in France and needs a way to up her income (they have holiday homes but that isn't enough. My father does IT support for expats and building jobs).
She does create crotchet 'things' and i've told her to sell them on various home made produce places like folksy.
She also may get some chance to do audio typing. I've told her to sign up for Peopleperhour.
What else can she do from France? Has anyone experience in selling things from a European country to England (e.g. using Etsy or Folksy? Are people ok with that considering extra packaging charges?).
They don't have a good internet connection so she can't do surveys or market research online.
However she is good at typing, proof reading for spellings and grammar, and crotcheting. (and nagging, worrying and other mumsy things
)
Is there anything else obvious (or not) that I can advise her?
Many thanks

Each generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.

Write a book about her French Experience giving tips & hints for others contemplating this lifestyle.
N.Never be afraid to take a profit.
Keep breathing.
Just because I am surrounded by FOOLS does not make me wise. :j0 -
As far as I've seen in the past - people on Etsy sell all over the world- as it's America-based your Mum would just charge the cost of appropriate postage. Etsy has worldwide customers and sellers - but there's a lot of competition on there! However something original and fairly priced would probably do well.
The other poster's idea of a book is a good one - even more competition though and perhaps hard to find a publisher!
Is her French good enough to teach other expats? Or could she offer English lessons to children/adults? Could she teach crochet? Sell English baking- puddings, biscuits, cakes etc? If she has holiday accommodation - could she offer other services- like an English/French cooked meal or baking- or packed lunches? Coulks she use the accomodation to organise painting/writing weekends in the low season? (Granted you need an expert to teach those).
I know how hard it is to sit down and think of one's own skills and how they could be used!
I wish her well.0 -
Would she feel comfortable selling on ebay, some of the people who sell French vintage & antiques seem to sell pretty well. Obviously I don;t know what they have to pay for things in flea markets, but maybe for a little extra that could be worthwhile0
