Can virgin credit card do this

They told me over the phone (twice) that I had been approved for a card & a credit limit of 5k and then when I called today as I'd received nothing, they said that when my application had gone for a final decision, the application had been declined. They said a letter was posted a few days ago to advise me but nothing in the post so far.

If there gonna decline then fine, but to say I got it & how much I had got & then to change their minds doesn't seem fair to me.

I've had to go get a loan to sort out my debt. I know I know not the debt free way, but I couldn't see any other way. I can't throw more money at the debt cos I just don't earn anymore & this way my monthly amount is still reduced leaving me able to stay in the black on my bank balance. The loan is over 5 years but I still plan to clear it in 2 and a half when my endowment plan matures.

Cheeky and annoying, but unless youve got something in writing you've got no comeback. Even if you had it in writing I doubt there's anything you could do anyway as noone can force them to give you credit.
Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
    Debt free 21st Oct 2011.

    All thanks to :money:
  • Hi there... I have 1st hand knowlege of this... Virgin AKA MBNA..

Applications that were approved below a certain score, or above a certain total credit limit always had to be sent to a 'queue' of analysts with the correct lending authority.

So if a junior analyst has approved tha account, it is still subject to review. With this card even if the account is open and running, it can be withdrawn at any time, for any reason.

    Hope it helps... sorry !

I was just curious to be honest. If they don't want to give you credit, there isn't anything you can do, I'm just annoyed for being told one thing & then another. I'm not that bothered that they declined me,

    Thanks !
