Hiya

Just wondering if I need these really. Our day is going to be like this:

4pm service in the ballroom
4.40pm drinks in the lounge & photographs
6.15 receiving line into the main party room
6.45 informal speach/few words from my "husband" and drink of bubbly for toasts & cake cutting
7.15 evening buffet served
carriages at midnight (I love that saying!!)

So just wondering if it's worth us having an order of service. I was determined not to, but on the other hand keep thinking it might help people to understand as it's not a "standard" wedding (although all will be made aware of it just being a buffet on the invitations, of course).

If I do need to do them, I can't stretch to the invitation makers doing them for us, so would need ideas for a cheap version I can DIY. Was thinking about the scrolls or likewise.

And if I should do them, what wording should I use? I don't want to go overboard.

Thanks folks....

Miss

Edited to add: what I'd really like to do is a simple A5 card, with a ribbon tied at the top, with writing on, but I don't think I can get card to go through my printer at home?

You could just have a large display at the venue with the itinerary for the day on it. Similar style to a table plan. Have it near to the entrance so guests see it as they arrive.

I would def do an order of service, as when we went to a friends wedding she got married at 3pm, but there was no exlanation re wedding breakfast, till the day and we were told its a bbq at night, my mate and I were starving, as we hadn't had dinner as traditionally you would expect a meal. Not from a snobbish point of view.

A scroll sounds a lovely, idea, could word it as 4pm wedding, followed by drinks in the lounge, then something to the effect of 6.15pm, we will be greeting / recieving guest in the party room (that covers the greeting and the fact that their is a change of room), followed by speeches, then evening buffet, add the midnight bit on.

that way you've covered all avenues. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

So would you give the guests the scroll on the day or post them with the invites? I like the scroll idea but had planned on putting a little card in with my invites with timings etc on.

I think this is what we are doing, having it next to the table plan so people know what is the plan for the day.

one of my friends had a little timeline card like this for everyone at the wedding which was a great idea and one i plan to steal, they just put it on the back of a postcard size sheet of card it was very simple but brilliant. they even put the time for photographs so you can design it what ever way you want.

That indeed is brilliant; I love it. Not too much fluff, doesn't take long to read, small enough to fit in a suit pocket or handba, etc.

I really wish I could find a way of putting card through my blumming printer! I'd do something similar myself!

We don't have an usher, but I would delegate to the best man to hand them out as people arrive.

in your printer properties tab is there an option to set the paper to be printed on to 'heavy paper or card stock'?
if not it looks like you wont be able to print them on thick card
