Have I won or is it just a scam?

Hi All,

Juat want to ask the more expert opinions out there.
I have just taken a call from someone saying that I have won 1 of 9 holidays to Europe. It followed on from a questionnaire that I had filled in elsewhere, and they could quote from it, so it seems believable.

All I had to do was phone an 0800 number, and quote my security code.

I called the number (it was freephone after all), where they confirmed I had won a holiday to either tenerife or costa del sol (my choice). I have to attend a meeting in Regent's St, and due to the meeting being last minute, I will get £70 worth of theatre tickets for my trouble.

Sounds good so far, but the freephone number girl said that I would have to pay a booking fee of £49.50 per person (up to 6).

That's where it sounds suspiciously like a scam to me. It's been suggested to me that it could be a time share, but has anybody else got experience of this?

I didn't get the company name I'm afraid (Costa something??).

HELP!

I would think it is a scam!!

    All I can say really!

If you have really "won" a prize then they wouldn't IMHO be asking for money up front!!!

She said that it would be when we book the holiday.
Thanks though, as it kinda confirms what I thought. They're going to send a letter through to confirm it all apparently, so I can investigate more thoroughly then.
    Thanks!

My view on it is that they are trying to sell you something (possibly timeshare) by asking you to atend a meeting - you haven't won anything if you have to pay for it yourself.

I "won" a holiday to tenerfife a few weeks ago. All I had to pay was £295.00 Yeah right. The woman kept phoning me every few days to see if I was still interested in the great offer (no longer a prize but an offer, funnily enough:rolleyes:)

My advice to you would be to tell them you are not interested and ask them verypolitely if they would not contact you again.

Hiya. Scroll back to magicmania's post- couple before yours- "Have I really won a holiday??" Sounds similar to your 'offer'.
I'd leave it if I were you.
:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing
