".....Film Festival Under the Stars returns

After the success of last year's free event, the Film Festival Under the Stars is making a return to the 60th edition Edinburgh International Film Festival.

On the weekend prior to the opening of the 2006 Film Festival - 11 and 12 August - EIFF and The Famous Grouse will be staging open-air, free film screenings of some classic films, including such cinematic gems as Bill Forsyth's Gregory's Girl, Sir Sean Connery's last franchised outing as James Bond Diamonds Are Forever and the firm favourite, Audrey Hepburn vehicle Breakfast At Tiffany's.

The screenings take place on a giant screen at the Mound Precinct, next to the National Gallery and just off Princes Street in the centre of town. This year's main films also include The Pink Panther with Peter Sellers in his first outing as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau and the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals Top Hat and Swing Time - and if you think you might be detecting something of a theme here, you're not wrong.

"We are delighted to be able to stage Film Festival Under the Stars again this year," said EIFF Managing Director Ginnie Atinson. "Our successful partnership with The Famous Grouse allows us to show films in this unique and highly accessible location to a wide cinema audience. The films chosen this year are around the theme of Ginger (Grouse) and Diamond, as it is our 60th edition."

The Film Festival Under the Stars is open to everyone and - if the free cinema is not enough for you - over-18s can also enjoy a complimentary glass of Ginger Grouse or The Famous Grouse Malt 10-year-old while they are entertained. The 2005 inaugural event saw some 9,000 people drop in to enjoy a variety of classic cinema, animation and music videos during the two-day event.

Tara Kildare, Sponsorship Manager for The Famous Grouse said: "Last year's event was such a resounding success that we wanted to repeat the event. Cinema-goers have the opportunity to enjoy either a Ginger Grouse or a glass of Malt while watching a fabulous film in a magnificent location......."
