Hi,
I usually get Thai Kitchen Green Curry Paste and Sharwood's fine egg noodles and find them good, but can get fairly costly. I wondered if you had any tips please on getting Thai products at a reasonable cost and if there any brands which may be just as good as the above please?
I also find Tesco's Thai rice isn't very good, it's mushy.. Thanks in advance..

See if you can find an asian grocery store as they are usually MUCH better and cheaper. I find when i use supermarket thai curry paste i need a whole jar for a good flavour, but buy a big tub for £1.20 in my local asian store and use a tablespoon each time!! Noodles are also cheaper sold in big 'no name' packs. Coconut milk is 50p against the extortionate £1.20 in Asda!0

What about looking on line. I get through masses of Indian Spices and after a lot of research, I have just placed my 1st order with http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/
Because I placed a large order, delivery was free and I am able to get a lot of things I have not managed to get in the shops. Some sites charge by the weight of the parcel, so you need to take care as jars, cans etc., really bump up the weight and cost. Which is why I went with this company as I did not need to worry about postage costs. I also looked at sites like Natco, but chose this one as it sold everyones brands.
The items varied between being more or less expensive, but overall I think I have saved money (and got a lot of new things to try).
This one appears to sell Thai stuff online http://www.nandiki.com/ but charges postage.
And another one http://www.thai-food-online.co.uk/
And another http://www.orientalmart.co.uk/
Not sure how the prices compare as I don't cook Thai very often. OH prefers indian curries.
On the question of rice, I only ever use Tilda. In order to lower the cost I buy in bulk, the large 5KG sacks and then decant into a plastic box (cereal tupperware box) we use to store the rice we use on a daily basis.
I once saw a TV programe about rice where these poor people worked in the paddy fields growing 'expensive rice', which was sold to the western world, whilst their country imported 'crap rice' from another country which the poor people got to buy (as they could not afford the expensive/good stuff they produced themsleves).
Shocking really, but it did hit home that not all rice is the same! There is good rice and crap rice. After initally moaning about the cost, even my OH won't eat cheap rice anymore. He bought some recently and said it was horrible and threw it away.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
We go to manchester and buy the Thai manufactured products plus have a look on http://www.ucancookthai.com
Anything you buy that wasn't actually made in Thailand isn't Thai. We lived out there for 2 years and my sons girlfriend is Thai and she uses the Thai side of this website too. If you can buy the sauces in the bottles, they last ages and they work out far cheaper.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

I get mine from this place http://www.orientalfoodshop.com/ but only because it's 1/2 mile up the road from me. I was in tesco last night though and wondered down the world food aisle and found that they did some similar stuff but obviously a lot less of it. They did the massive bottles of fish sauce for £1.20 and I got one from place above last week for £1.40 and I thought that was a bargain. However, tesco couldn't come close on the price of noodles, if you can find an asian supermarket it'll probably be overall cheaper with a lot bigger range. I'm getting frozen fish balls next time!0
