Thinking of working from home typing

I am thinking of working from home typing, after work and at weekends (I will be on work experience as legal secretary for 3 months). I already have 12 years experience as secretary/typist and have printer, laptop with all programs etc on it.
I may need to invest in a transcription (audio) machine, but does anyone actually know how much work out there, there actually is for home typing?
I did know someone who set up her own home PA company as well as worked for private company but I don't want to step on her toes by asking her advice.
Any advice from people here would be appreciated.
