There maybe people out there who think: Tough, she over-extended herself and had to face the consequences.

Granted, my finances were stretched and I was investing in buy-to-let property. But where else are you supposed to invest these days? Personal pensions, what with mis-selling scandals?

I heard the broadcast of this lady's story last year and at the time was sympathetic, however I did not realise that she had INTENTIONALLY got pregnant.

So many people write on this forum I've got £25 - £50k of debt and I want a baby. Children are not a god given right they are a privallage and it is your responsibility to do the right thing for them and if you can't afford them don't have them.

This woman is niave but I think she just has to accept that she jepodised they're future by getting pregnant and now will have to go on a DMP or bankrupt or deal with the debts some how.

I can't believe she wanted a 12 month payment holiday without any interest added - brilliant!!!

I have to say I can relate to this, I'm 33 and have paid into co pensions when possible but have progressed my career and left each co. I am terrified of the equitable life situation and I have no pension provisions I don't know who to trust.
  • I followed this diary on the BBC new site and must confess that the lady in question just wound me up. I am a freelance IT consultant and she is giving people in this business a very bad name. If she wants "maternity leave" then she should be working permanently for a company or pay herself maternity leave through her limited company.

As for taking her previous client to court for discriminitation, don't get me started.....

Talk about wanting your cake and eating it...

    Rant over.

With you on that one John - we get paid "extra" to cover holidays, sickness, pensions, training etc. And yes, I've run across a few idiots who treated the top line like the bottom line. Of course the sensible line of realising that you may have odd period between contracts isn't that "news"-worthy.

Definitely gives "IT consultants" a bad name (or maybe "contract coders"..?), and no cigar for the beeb either.
