Seen a 1 bedroom flat for sale 40k. question is, is it to soon to apply for a mortgage i have 3 defaults all paid partner has perfect credit file shes never missed a payment. They are 5 years old (paid about 4 - 41/2 years ago) we have 6k saved up whats our chances. I earn £21000 O/H £13000, she will be going back to work after maternity leave.

One bed flat for 2 adults and child ?
Wont you want to move within 12/18 months
Can you stay at o/h parents for 12 months until defaults come off your credit file and o/h back at work plus bigger deposit for 2 bed flat or small house.
  • You both earn a respectable amount, is a 1 bed flat really going to be suitable at 1am, 2am, 3:30am, 4:25am and 5am when you have a full day's work ahead of you at 7am? I'm with dimbo61 on this one, you'll want to upgrade pronto and moving costs money. You'd be better off staying put or renting until you can get a house: A small family house with more than 1 bedroom. Children take up a lot of space (cot, pram, buggy, toys, clothes, nappies....) and a 1 bed flat will feel like a shoe box very quickly.
