Hmm well I found what I thought was a single chocolate brioche lurking at the back and it turned out to be a roll of uncooked peanut butter cookie dough wrapped in cling film as I had some left over and thought I'll freeze it for when I'm short of time and want a few cookies
I had added a few choclate diced buttons to it when I made itBut it tasted Ok when I sliced it and cooked it anyway
also I found a lost lonely choc ice that had escaped from a box hidden under some ice ,that was nice as well
My super daughter came this afternoon, and pulled the fridge freezer out for me as only my left arm works properly so its hard to shift things, and bless her she washed down the outside of the freezer where I couldn't reach it as well Tomorrow I shall take all the magnets off the front and sides and wash the rest of the outside of the cabinet down. It was so nice to be rid of the titanic sized iceberg in the freezer.I have two new drawers to replace the old cracked ones so it will look like a brand new f/freezer by tomorrow afternoon I am a very happy old biddy tonightand only two more days until my holidays ,life is good atm

Just popping in with loud cheers for Jackie on finally clearing and defrosting the freezer!
Happy holidays on the IoW too, I'm sure you'll have a great time.
One of my recent freezer "finds" was the pastry in-between bits from a pack of Xmas vol au vents cases. I baked them when I had the oven for something else and served them on a chicken dinner - a bit like a chicken pie but with the pastry as a side!
Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
My grandmother used to roll out leftover pastry into small rectangles and bake then while the oven was on. She'd serve them on top of stewed fruit as a pudding.8

My mother would sprinkle the leftover bits with cinnamon and sugar and then bake for me. Some times I make a crust now, slice it and add the cinnamon and sugar, and never worry about making a pie with it.10

A posh restaurant would call that 'deconstructed chicken/apple pie'.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/28

YorksLass, I am up at a daft time this morning ,no reason just wide awake ,first thing I did when coming down was open the freezer door and look at the empty shelves
how sad am I
Just sitting here with my first cuppa of the day I found a tin of stem ginger biscuits yesterday at the back of the cupboard that I had been given back last year BBE date Dec 2020, but nothing ventured, I tried a couple this morning and gosh they are gorgeous. Sooo nice, I think I will have a go at making some when I'm back from my holidays. Nothing like the ordinary gingernuts from the supermarket. Trouble is I took the packet out of the tin and recycled the tin so I can't remember the name of the makers, but it was in a round tin with a lid similar to mason jar lids with metal clasps .i think possibly bought from maybe a National Trust place. I know the tin was a sort of beige colur so I will have a look in perhaps W'rose or one of the up market shops as the lady who gave them to me is a bit up market herself but she sadly has passed on from the virusso I can't ask her.I shall find them though I feel sure.
My lovely lass who trims my hair is due this morning so I shall be shorn in the hope of some sunshine on my holiday. She is a dear soul, whose shop closed down because of the lockdown, and she went mobile and phoned and asked if I would be interested I jumped at the chance as she's been shearing me for the past 15 years. She's local and so if it keeps her in business I'm all for local trade. I've passed her on to several others as well.
Oystercatcher I agree 'posh' restaurants do give daft names to ordinary stuff don't they. Not that I frequent many nowadaysI much prefer my own home cooking, or both my son-in-laws are excellent cooks. I'm looking forward to my youngest 's Oh's cooking on holiday.Especially if she goes fishing and catches some sea bass, Simon cooks it beautifully in butter with herbs and peppers and butter. Weird, because my DD adores sea fishing and goes out with the DGS but never eats fish.
Right times getting on and things to do so I shall 'see' you all no doubt when I get back in mid-July .keep ahold of those pennies and make them streeetch

Have a lovely holiday Jackie and Im a little jealous of you with your family that can cook. Me and OH love our food and are constantly trying out new recipes. Unfortunately none of my extended family feel the same and we rarely get cooked for unless we go out to a restaurant. The older I get, the more I am disappointed with restaurant food and the amount you pay for it. I am constantly thinking that the amount we are spending on one meal could feed us for a week!!Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £609

@London_1 Those sound like the biscuits made by Cartwright and Butler - might it have been these:

Enjoy your holiday to the IoW, we also love the diamond isle. The Duver at St Helen’s is another dog friendly beach, and it has a fab cafe.8
