I refill an old molten brown handwash bottle with the same colour cheap handwash so I have a lovely expensive looking set (fyi people will often sell their empty bottles on ebay for 99p).
anyone got a cheap transparent pink handqash/shower gel they can suggest?
I do this. I have fancy pump dispensers and just refill with cheap stuff.Dave Ramsey Fan0 -

Make-up brushes etc can easily be kept clean by washing them in warm soapy water (you don't need special brush cleaners etc), rinse well and let them dry naturally.

I'm not sure if I've posted this tip on this thread before. I cut sheets of kitchen roll into quarters and store them in a box on the worktop. They are really handy for when you just want to wipe a knife when making sandwiches, and for other things where you don't need to use a whole sheet.
I've just cut up some kitchen towels and have nice little bundle on my kitchen window sill. I'll see how this works out for me.Dave Ramsey Fan0 -

I usually batch cook a load of chilli which I keep in freeze-able containers. To fill them I use a jam funnel as it makes it easy to fill without spilling down the sides of the containers or on the work surface. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Hi, I'm new to the forums but I have read this thread all the way through so far. I don't know if they all do it, but my water company does water efficiency audits for certain areas, and my new home, which is water metered, qualified. A lovely plumber came round and fitted a dual flush in the cistern, put inserts in the bathroom sink, and gave us a shower timer. I am hoping this will all help reduce our water bill. The dual flush is supposed to save three litres per flush. I just wanted to mention it in case others don't know about this when in fact they are eligible for it.2016 MFW no. 47 £0/£3,000

Well worth asking the local water company if they do this, thank you
I have an old 2 litre pop bottle (filled with water) in the cistern of all our toilets which makes a really good saving over the year and doesn't cost a pennyI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
If you have some tea tree oil knocking about the house, add a few drops when refilling your handwash soap dispenser with any old cheap shampoo/shower gel - antibacterial handwash0

Oh, I've got another one. I wear contact lenses, and pay monthly, and every three months I would get the lenses and the solution delivered in the post. However, a lot of supermarkets sell own brand lens solution in bigger bottles and at a cheaper price. So I now only pay for the lenses at my optician, and buy the solution separately every couple of months with my shopping, thus saving the pennies.2016 MFW no. 47 £0/£3,000

Once you've used about half the tube, put the top on it and then drag the tube by the bottom over the edge of your washbasin or whatever so as to flatten the tube and squeeze it towards the top. If you find this awkward, lay the tube on a flat surface instead and use the handle of a wooden spoon to do the same thing.
Having flattened the bottom half of the tube as much as possible, get a spring-type clothes peg handy then roll up the now-flattened part of the tube as far as it'll go, then clip the peg on the bit you've rolled up to stop it unrolling.
Then as you use the rest of the tube up, repeat the process as far up the tube as you can.
That way you get as much toothpaste for your money as possible with the least hassle, particularly if you have weak/arthritic fingers.
For the ultimate in toothpaste economy, do this with the 30p a tube stuff :cool:We're all doomed0
