mouly monterey jack cheese

Hi
I bought some monterey jack cheese and have only just got around to using it. The use by date is 27/04/10 but it is slightly mouldy round the edges. If I just slice off the mould will it still be ok to use and eat?
It's for a pot luck family picnic and I don't want to risk making everyone, including kids, ill
TIA x

I'd have no problem cutting off the mould and eating it, but if you are unsure, chop off the mould and then use it in a cooked dish. It's great on pizza (which you could make for the picnic too
)
It's only a game

There's little health-risk from a bit of mould on some cheese. I'd just cut the mouldy bit off and use the rest, no problem. What do you suppose our own families did in the days before refrigeration?0

I've gone ahead and used it, just wanted to err on the side of caution. I tasted it and it was yummy!
Thank you for your help, really appreciate it. I was in a bit of a quandary before. Neurotic? Me?!0
