just been suspended from work

hi, i have just been suspended from work and have to say am gutted. basicaly i am the store manager and i know the buck stops at me, after all thats what i get paid for. however a few months a go a customer gave me a cheque to pay for some materials and i know its the company procedure to transax all cheques, and on this occasion and most probley because i was rushing i didnt transax the cheque and now we have found out the cheque bounced. i have been in touch with the customer and he said that he would come into my store and pay for it by a card in the next few days. in the mean time the companys internal security team came to my store to do an investagation, at the time i was short staff and didnt have time to do a formal interview with them, that afternoon i had a 1to1 meeting with my boss who i told him about what happoned he just told me to sort it.
the following day the security team came back again at a unconvement time as again i was short staff and again i refused to do the formal interview beacuse i felt i was in control of the situation with the customer and again short staffed.
then my bose then turned up and asked my what my problem was and was pushed into a corner and agreed to do the interview . at this point another store manager came and sat in on the interview, during the interview we went over what had happoned with this cheque and he also asked me question on why we had COD's outstanding (cash on del) 1 of them was done when i was on holiday and my !!! manager authorised them along with 3 others, in our eyes they is no problem in getting the money from the customers and we are both in control of the sitution. this is very coman in our industry to do these.
after the interview the other store manager suspended me and asked me to leave the store and would get a letter from our HR next week.
i over herad that my !!!. manger would be interviewed on monday and posibley suspended too.
i know what we did was wrong and will sort it out, however i find it hard to understand why this company has gone over board with this and when we ask for help with staffing levels as the few staff we have are all working late and trying our best are egnored, their are loads of minor procedure that its not possible to do like signing this pc of paper and that but the company pulls a blind eye over them when i highlight them, my boss has canceled my appaisal over 18 times now in the last 12 months and if he had a problem with my management style shorley he should have talked to me about this?
when i go to this disaplinery next week and get a hopefuly only get a smack on my legs do i accept it or should i make a fuss over my boss not helping us when we have asked for help? what should i axpect to happen in this meeting?
any advice would be helpful

you were aware of procedure and did not follow it, on more than one occassion. Appraisal or not, that is the facts, yes?
Can the company demonstrate you have been trained or advised of the correct procedures?Debt free 4th April 2007.
