Keep empty milk/juice cartons, plastic water/squash bottles. Anything with a lid.

Warm the oil gently - or it might not be necessary, if it pours - and then pour the old oil through a funnel into the container, put the lid on and stick it in the bin. Or, your local council tip might have a container for old cooking oil.

If you warm the oil, be careful - you don't want it so hot that it melts the plastic container!

I assume that you clean the oil a few times before you chuck it?

When I used to have a deep fat fryer, I would pour the used oil into an empty bottle, eg the bottle the oil came in or something similar, then put it in the bin.
If oil has been poured down the sink, it might be a good idea to put a load of soda crystals down, followed by a kettleful of boiling water to clear it.
Cooking oil doesn't set, by the way. I think years ago when people used lard or something like that for deep frying, that would set when cold. Oil stays the same.

Still not a good idea to put it down the sink - the sediment which you get will stick to the sides of the pipes & trap other waste, eventually causing pipes to slow & smell. I don't think the council's like it being put in bins either, when we had a fryer I used to take it to the local tip & put it in with the old engine oil collection.

I try & clean the oil but the problem comes when son wants southern fried thi or that & the oil takes on the flavour. I don't really eat fried food but I have a severe dairy allergy & his foods are covered in dairy stuff so I need to change the oil. have been using water/pop bottles etc but I just wondered if someone knew a better way. Thanks guys :)
