Homebase - Poor customer service.

I travelled by bus to Homebase at Galwally earlier today to get a couple of small items.
While I was there I decided to buy six pot plants and carried them to the checkout. After paying for them I was appalled to discover that they would not give me anything to carry the plants in. 'We don't supply bags and we recycle our boxes to save the environment'
I told him I had travelled in the bus instead of the car to do just that but he just looked at me as if I was insane and snatched away my trolley (in case I made off with it, I suppose.):(
They also told me at the Information desk that the delivery charge for a lawnmower would be £25 - surely that can't be true?

From their website:
We are very happy to provide a plastic carrier bag if you need one. Please reuse our carrier bags as often as possible and when you’ve finished with them, look out for a local recycling scheme or dispose of them safely so that they don’t cause a litter problem.
Regarding the delivery charge, yes that's about right.
Homebase themselves don't deliver but subcontract it out to local delivery drivers hence the charge. I think the price is per drop so it would remain the same even if your order was huge.
I'd get onto Head Office regarding the refusal of a bag.0 -
It wasn't so much the fact that there were no bags (I ended up snatching a couple of their flower boquet covers) but the 'couldn't give a t*ss' attitude of the adolescent Jobsworths who refused my request.:(
I will do as you suggest, sophieschioce and see what they say. Thanks.0 -
jeffer - I call into Homebase at Galwally fairly regularly as it's on my way home from work. In the last couple of years the only member of staff in the entire store who appears to be working when I'm there is a very nice Indian lady who does the tills. She can have a queue 5 deep and there will still be a bunch of half a dozen wasters standing gossiping at Customer Services. The store is very badly managed by the look of it.0

Maybe I should have asked them for their 'carry to your car' service - my car was at home a couple of miles down the road!:rotfl:0 -

I've had to call into this store and as said above, there only ever seems to be the nice Indian lady on the till with everyone else either hiding or not giving a t*ss. Thankfully the Bangor store is the closest for me so the Galwally store was only for emergencies. It's dark, dingy and is worse than the old Texas store.0 -

A lovely lady indeed - always very pleasant and ha sa smile for you, which can be a rare thing these days in shop assistants and the complete opposite of some of the scowlers who are at their Customer Services desk. I once returned an item there and my money was refunded, put on the counter instead of into my outstretched hand (really annoys me when that happens btw) - all in complete silence from the female assistant.0 -
I use the Homebase at Boucher and it does my head in, there never seems to be anyone on the tills whilst I'm there!
However they did offer me a bag. You should def get on to Head Office!0 -
I also agree with the statement regarding the woman on the till - very friendly. Received very bad costumer service from one of the very young dolls on the customer service desk.0

In her defence, Homebase isn't a costume shop.
Try Elliott's of Ann Street for all your fancy dress needs. Hope this helps!:D0
