Costco Tyres...Any Good?

I remember seeing a post a while back about Costco tyres. We need 2 new tyres for our car and I don't know if it's worth going to Costco or if we should just go to a local place. Help!?

You can ring and ask for a quote. I think they stock reputable brands, not cheapies.

They ONLY sell MICHELIN and I've NEVER found them to be cheaper (even when they had a 25% discount offer available) than the same Michelin tyres available at any of my local tyre depots, that also have such a wider range of manufacturers to choose from.

Personally I think UNIROYAL (The Rain Tyre) are the best but many of the "budget" brands are perfectly suitable for most cars.
I put a budget set (4 tyres, new valves & balanced etc. for £200) on my V6 Mondeo about 3 years ago, great handling, plenty of grip in the dry OR WET and I've done about 35,000 miles.
The rear pair will probably last another 3 years or 35,000 miles before I'll need to change them.
The fronts have about another year I'd guess (10,000 miles) before they would become illegal, so I'll probably change them in about 6 months time or in 5000 miles time :)

At £50 each "all in" I was very happy especially since the same size Michelin were over £100 +vat & all the extra bits

OH has used them several times; yes you need to be a member and yes they can be and frequently are cheaper than the likes of Kwikfit etc. BUT it is a complete ballsache to do. First you have to go into the warehouse to buy your tyres - remembering that they dont take credit cards, only cash or debit cards. You get very little/practically no help choosing them. Then you have to take your tyres to the tyre bay. Then you have to book your timeslot to have them fitted. You cannot do this until you have bought your tyres, so you will have no idea how long you have to wait until you have committed to having them done. At weekends the wait can be over 3 hours, so only do this if you have nothing else to do with your day except sit in a tyre bay watching the world go by. (Most Costco warehouses are in the middle of nowhere so you cant even wander off to the shops while you wait).

    Good luck..........

Guess it depends on tyre size, costco worked out more expensive for my tyres. What I did was get a price on line and got Kwik fit to price match.

I had a recent quote from Costco for 2 new tyres for Vaux Zaffira but shopped around and got the same tyres significantly cheaper from a national online company who come to either your work or home. They also offer a puncture repair service (free if it happens to tyres which they have supplied). Since then my h has also used them and we have been really pleased with service etc. Def would recommend. Not sure if I am allowed to name them?

Please do, my car needs new tyres, had been planning to get them from Costco, but like the idea of someone coming to me to fit them, esp if they're also cheaper :T

Have a look at www.blackcircles.co.uk you order online and pick where you want them fitted locally or if you just want to buy locally get some qoutes for Maxxis tyres. They seem very good and I recently got 4 fitted for £134 in total.

Another vote for black circles, great service and really pleased with my tyres which were from a budget range but had really good reviews.
