HSBC delay from exchange to completion

We're selling a flat with no chain to a buyers with no chain yet the buyer's bank, the HSBC insists on a 2 week gap from exchange to completion. Has anyone else had success in bringing the completion date forward? Why can't we exchange and complete on the same day? This is confusing.

Well if they were allowed to exchange and complete on the same day, how would they be able to back out?TEDDYRUKSPIN wrote: »Simple.. what if you flat buyer backs out at the last minute? Seen it done before.
I don't understand your point.
OP - I have no idea. I've been involved in a mortgage application that took 48 hours from application to completion. HSBC may have good reasons, but I have no idea what they are.0
