  • Thanks for this post.

Today I received a pre printed post card from these guys addressed to 'The Occupier'

On the back was pre printed "Please call Alice on 0141 300 5464 ref: 595009168 ALD

I have just been on this site where loads of other people have had the same card but with a different "Please call..." name

    http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01413005464#p162884664462215511

I have never lived in Scotland and I am certain this is some kind of eleborate scam. I would be interested to hear from the OP as to her outcome?

I would like to report this company but do not know where to start.

Any advice? I have contacted the MPS where I am registered, their reply was:
    Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately MPS is unable to investigate since the mailing was not personally addressed to you. If the company are chasing an outstanding debt the mailing would not be classified as unsolicited direct mail and I would suggest that you contact the Information Commissioners Office on 01625 54545 (select option 1) for further guidance.

    Hello,

Yes, we had one of these cards pop through the letterbox this morning. They really are crafty s*ds!

In my last home we used to get 'text' phone messages on the landline from a similar sort of company (I think it was something 'Hall') who asked you to call back quoting a certain reference.

I looked into it then (I DID NOT phone the number)...what they do apparently is try to get as many of your details as possible - your name for instance, & then see if they can match you to a debtors list.

Then - because you have been gullible enough to give them this information, they will proceed to chase you for money. You may not even owe any money - but if you have the same name as someone who does - watch out! Appalling!

If someone phones you, or tries to make contact & doesn't already know who it is they want to speak to...I would advise you be very wary!

What it should really say on those postcards is something like this...

    Hello,

We are a debt collection agency and are making enquiries to find out if anyone at that address owes any monies. Please be so kind as to call us back so we can get your details and pursue it.

Many thanks in advance for your cooperation etc etc

What? Don't you think that would work ;-)!
  • I've had 2 of these postcards one yesterday and one today both are the same apart from the name one was "Mary" and todays one is "Max" I have crossed out the address and written "Not known at this address" and sent them back (I do this with all mail not addressed to me)...
Let them pay the postage costs twice lol.

The same thing has happened to me yesterday - a card was delivered to my old address and my mate whose house it is isn't very happy at all, so I don't know what to do. Apparently it said to ring 0141 3005464 and ask for Sally. I can't understand why it would go to my mate's address when as far as I know I've told everyone I've moved.

Will they keep sending cards even though my mate has phoned and told them I don't live there??

    Help!

Possibly, it depends how they latched on to the fact that you are there in the first place.
Have you ordered a credit report since you were there? have you updated any bills so that they come to that address (bank account, mobile phone, any other debts etc?)

Would someone at your previous address have given them your new address?

You might find that next time they write a letter addressed to you rather than a postcard.
