This was on a few weeks ago but didn't get much views as area specific. I've just had mine fitted and thought I'd put it up again as it's avaiable in most areas but isn't widely publicised.
Items available
Safety gates (up to 2)
Window restrictors (up to 6)
Non-slip bath or shower mat (x1)
Fire guard (x1)
Locks for kitchen cupboard containing cleaning chemicals and medications (x2)
Corner cushions (up to 2 packs of 4)

This is a scheme usually run through children's centres that takes about three weeks to get them fitted. I am very please with fittings - very quick and secure. Also looks very nice.
This is the link to what areas are participating

If the email link doesn't work on the list hover over it and look in bottom left of window for the email address.

technically this isn't a freebie but it's good to know and i've passed on the info. many thanks op
To participate in Safe At Home, local home safety equipment schemes must -- Operate in one of the targeted areas in the list of Local Area Allocations (except where a decision has been made to allow schemes from other areas to participate).
- Work in partnership with local stakeholders.
- Provide the equipment received from Safe At Home to families on a loan and return basis, and ensure that families sign up to a loan agreement.

Yes, you can hire them as long as you want / need them (longer if you have more children).
To buy two no trip baby gates would be at best £30 and the fire guard possibly £20. Maybe cheaper if second hand but you get these brand new. The baby gates are Babydan ones so they are good quality.
As long as you meet the criteria
http://www.safeathome.rospa.com/who.htm (scroll down forwhich families can benefit part) you can get them and they are pretty relaxed on this.
For eg if you don't meet the criteria but your partner won't let you buy any then you could be considered for them. It case by case if no criteria is met. The main focus is getting kids to be safer.0 -
Wouldnt it be good if workers like myself got these for free and those who dont work get !!!! all for a change0

Well I've worked full time all my life and will be working again when my daughter is at nursery so I think taking three years out to see my little one in her first special years should be allowed and accepted. I know people take advantage but not all who can benefit from things like this are work shy and live life of the system.0
