I only tend to wear mascara and lip gloss for work, so my makeup bag is my daily essentials:

Avene moisturiser
Liz Earle travel size hand cream
Touche Eclat
Mascara (atm Rimmel Sexy Curves)
Juicy Tubes - Strawberry Sorbet
Elf - luscious liquid lipstick in pink lemonade (used to be mositure care)
Aveda lip balm
Aveda perfume (can't remember which number it is)
couple of Serge Lutens sample perfume vials

I don't have a make up bag in my handbag but I have:

Compact mirror

I keep all my every day makeup in my makeup bag, just so its easier to grab if i'm staying somewhere overnight.

Moisturiser: Clinique dramatically different moisturising gel
Foundation: Maybelline mineral powder and liquid
Concealer: Maybelline minerals concealer
Powder: Collection 2000 translucent
Blusher: It changes depending on my mood but usually 1 or 2 shades of MAC
Mascara (generally maybelline - another thing I alter between), Eyeliner (always black rimmel), blonde eyebrow pencil and liquid eyeliner.
Also some kind of lipbalm or lipgloss and my brushes/eyelash curler
