When you sign on Tuesday it will be for the two week period up to Tuesday. You are entitled to work under 16 hours per week without it affecting your ability to sign on. However it would affect the amount of JSA you would get in that week. The first £10.00 is disregarded. However it shouldn't affect last weeks JSA if you didn't work then.

Is it not the first £5 that's disregarded?
  • think it's £10.00 for single and £20.00 for couple
  • It's the first £5 that is disregarded if you are on a single person's claim. If you are working just short of 16 hours it should wipe out your JSA, however your NI will be getting paid if you continue to sign. You MUST declare the work when you sign and complete a B7 detailing your hours and earnings for each fortnight.

Don't forget that NI contributions are paid for you and that you can still get Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit if you stay on JSA. You have to still prove you're looking for work though.
