Dental bills.

I am currently claiming JSA, and need some dental work done. I understand that I can get the bills paid, but I don;t know how I go about it. I don't want to make an appointment with a dentist, only to find out that I've done something wrong and have to pay for it myself; I can't afford to!
Can anyone help please?

I think it depends if you get contributions or income based JSA, if you're on contributions based you have to pay for dental work.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0

It will only work with a dentist seeing you on the NHS for one thing. There is no help with private costs. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Hmmm, thanks! I think I'm on contributions? I don't have a job, so JSA is my only source of income (well, and housing benefit).0

Ask your dentist, they keep the forms there and you will be able to claim back any money you have paid if you keep the receipts.
ETA: You have to send the form away.0 -
When I was on JSA for a while I just turned up at my appointment and then asked them while I was there. They sorted it all out there and then so I didn't pay a penny
Just ask at reception before your appointment.
Hope that helps0 -
As has been said you can only get help if it is an NHS dentist and if you are on income related. Other than that you will have to pay it all yourself.0

Where I am if you aren't already registered with an NHS dentist, you have to write & ask to be put on a list & then when there's a place you get allocated a dentist. It took me about 6 months of toothache before I got an NHS dentist.
Before I lost my job due to ill health I couldn't even get on the list & paid privately for years.
It may be worth calling an NHS dentist if you aren't registered & asking how you go about it in your area.0 -
Hi
You need to get your Jobcentreplus office to complete an HC1 form for you, which you take along to your dentist.
There is a leaflet that tells you about entitlement to help with NHS costs - try searching for 'HC11'.0
