What's your tax code? You might get a better response on the Cutting Tax board.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Hello
Ist - we are in a new tax year, so your earning start again, what you earnt last year makes no difference to your taxable pay this year, only to tax credits.
2nd - You are being taxed at the emergency rate, so 20% on all earnings, with no personal allowances. Personal allowances should mean that the first £500 and a bit per month suffer no tax deduction. You need to get on to your tax office to get a proper code, once you have that your employer should be able to refund any overpaid tax. Your employer can give you the details and phone number of your tax office.
Good luck0 -

Additionally, can you see 647L anywhere on your pay statement?0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

The OP appears to have been taxed using a BR code. This is not an emergency rate - it simply means Basic Rate of 20%.
The OP will probably find, assuming this is her only job, that HMRC's super-duper new computer system has added her to the long list of wrong tax codes being supplied!0
