Hi there,

My dad has just let me in on his financial difficulties. He has a secured loan that he took out about 8yrs ago. The original amount was £10,000. He also took out PPI at the time. He took out the loan not long after the divorce of my parents. He has his own property that he owns outright, and this is what the loan is secured on.
Now not long after he took out the loan he was signed off work sick with depression, and this was for about a year. Now although he notified the loan company (so they halted his payments) he never claimed on his loan insurance.

We've got to a point now where he still owes just as much today as he took out 8yrs ago. He's run up so many charges (approx £4k) he had 2 spells of unemployment during the period of the loan. I asked for a full statement and there are solicitor fees on the bill that total about £800 - I presume they were starting repossession?

By the look of the statement my father has been terrible at repaying the loan over the past years. Mostly the fault of his own.
What Im trying to find out now, for the period of sick (albeit a few years ago) if we got a medical certificate to confirm he was signed off sick could be get the payments paid for that period?

I hope I've been clear enough and I thank you for taking the time to read this.

Chris
