Argos have this listed in their clearance section from £299.99 to £159.99. It's retailing at over £200 everywhere else. It seems a good buy so I've gone and reserved one for collection later today in Truro.

not sure if this is still the case, but this camcorder did used to suffer from a noisy drive mechanism when recording. I steered clear of this DV CAM when getting my first DV Cam in May this year. You can see what people think of it at simplydv.co.uk in the forums, just search for MV930.
Maybe the problem was an early bad batch and now the problem has been resolved.0 -
I have just bought a Sony DCRHC35 from Amazon. Jessops have them at £299 but the Amazon price was £213. A couple of days ago this dropped to £208 with free delivery. Haven't used it yet but it is an impressive package. Thay also have the DCRHC24 for £199. It is the same Camera but without the docking station. They don't come with any tapes so allow for that. I bought 5 sony premium from ebay for £11.10 inc post but I have been to Aldi this morning and they have TDK DV Mini tapes at £4.99 for 3 which is an absolute bargain and probably the cheapest available.
I think these tape digital camcorders are probably being phased out due to the DVD and Hard drive formats coming out. But, I was told that at this stage it is still better to buy a good tape camcorder than a cheap DVD or HD recorder as the quality will be so much higher. Apparently this is down to the format which the recording is stored as: Tape is AVI whereas DVD/HD is mpeg4 which is heavily compressed in order to fit it on. Hope this helps. This is only what I have been told, please do not take my word for it as I could be completely wrong.
Cheers

Brockyman, you are correct. Tape is the way if you want to edit any video without losing quality.0

Phew, I got it right. :cool:robbino wrote:Brockyman, you are correct. Tape is the way if you want to edit any video without losing quality.
I'm glad about that as I want to shoot footage of my sons band in order to upload to his website. If we get any good at it we may do a bit of editing to make something a bit more creative than just straight filming.
The Sony DCRHC35 which I bought seems to have all the bells and whistles I will need, for the time being anyway, and seemed to be very good for the price. I have never had a camcorder before, never had the need for one, so I wanted something that would do the job without having to upgrade in 6 months.
I have a pal who works in the service dept at Comet. He said NEVER buy a Panasonic camcorder as they get more of those to repair than any other brand. JVC are not far behind. He said Canon or Sony are the way to go going by his experience of numbers returned. Apparently Sony will only allow warranty repairs to be done by themselves, everything has to go back to them, so he doesn't know much about them only that they get very few back compared to the others.
Cheers,

This is my first post having been an avid watcher for some time now, so I hope this is of some help to anyone wanting one of these.
I got mine in Stretford on Saturday which I reserved on Friday, but there were ones in Wrexham (now gone), and Preston Fishergate (now gone). I did check Preston Deepdale but there were none on Friday but just checked again and there is one (must have been reserved and not picked up). Its probably a worthwhile exercise checking again if you're after one as they may turn up.
You can get spare compatible batteries from 7 day shop here they sell them singly or twin pack. P+P is £3.95 per order.

Thanks to the OP as I wouldn't have got one otherwise.0 -
A very good find indeed. I wish I had seen that before I bought my Sony. I would have saved over £40.
Like I say, my friend at Comet reckons that Canon and Sony are the ones to buy as they get less returns on those.

Great find, got one in Glasgow Fort on Saturday, haven't used it yet
but seems to be just what I needed.
What are the non Canon batteries like, ie the ones from 7dayshop?
Has anyone had any problems with them?

Glad to see a few of you managed to pick up one of these. We've been over in Ireland on holiday for the last week and have used it every day. For the money it's a great buy especially seeing as it's widescreen which I don't think you get on the equivalent Sony or Panasonic. All I need to do now is buy a cable to transfer the footage onto a laptop.Matched betting profits since 11/10/06 = £1,5540
