Try not to worry, as they "know about it" it prob won't happen,.,,as they will "close" the security problem/

I read the story and the claim is based on their being a keylogger on your machine and someone montoring it for a few days - its highly unlikely to happen. Especially since now they know about it as isgman says.

I dont know why people worry so much about this kind of thing. In the 1 in a million chance it'll happen to, you aside from the inconvenience for a few days there's not much that can happen. You'll never be liable for any loses unless you're proved to be grossly negligent.

Saw that today and wasn't desperately encouraged as I bank with HSBC. I'm a bit surprised they were the only bank mentioned though as Egg (who I also bank with) seems just as (if not more) vulnerable as you enter the same info each time for the latter rather than randomly selected numbers from your passnumber as you do for the former. I guess the former is a "big five" bank and so gathers more coverage than an internet upstart

IIRC (and correct me if I'm wrong) a keylogger requires access to the internet in the same way as would an email program or internet browser (as it needs to broadcast the data back to the writer) so a correctly installed and configured firewall or router will go some way towards mitigating this risk by restricting its ability to do so

There are many well respected programs out there for detecting and resolving spyware, adware, malware, rootkit and viruses et al should they get through. Some of these are even bundled with Windows XP SP2 and Mac OS X, such as the software firewall

It's best to make sure your computer is protected as it can be. See http://blogs.zdnet.com/Spyware/index.php?p=733 for some good examples of what you can do to protect your PC. I think I've enacted all the programs and techniques in the list over the last year or two just to make sure
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

  • the point is there are major security floores in windows so every time you use internet banking its only as secure as the weekest link ....
and all the banks are constantly updateing the security.

If i undertand it right the scurity floor is a key logger which is on YOUR computer (ie the weekest link) and now they have been made aware that ther is apossable flaw then they will plug it......

How many updates did my windows update download for august yesterday?

15 i think and that puts the web in context :)
Debit was £64k (light bulb Feb 05)
    Debt now 60K Dec 07 DFD= nov2019
