Denied job due to CCJ Advise and help please!!

Hi,

Had a terrible day today. Got accepted for a job with LTSB as a contractor yesterday only to be told at 4pm today that I can't have the job due to the CCJ on my file.

What makes it even harder to take was the fact that I told them honsetly upfront about it first before they ran a credit check (which I had to agree to in order to get the job) and was told it would be fine since I told them about it. I imformed them that the debt was being paid off and infact I don't have to pay anything until Jan 2011 now because I made a big payment in Dec 09. The CCJ started at £33,658 and now stands at £23,000 so I have paid off nearly a 1/3 and this job would help me clear it out completly before the end of this year.

Anyway my question is has anybody been in this situation themselves and also would it help me in getting the job if the CCJ was satisfied?

Thanks

John

    That sucks John.

Who was it that told you it would be okay? Were you able to contact them about the decision?

I've no idea about whether a settled CCJ would be acceptable to them, but thought it might be worth mentioning that even with a CCJ, you can make a F&F offer.

It will fall off your file after 6 years. Has it got long to go 'til then?

Can't offer any advice sorry, but just wanted to say that totally sucks, especially when you told them up front.

Thanks for the replies guys and yes it totally sucks.

George it still has another 3 and half years till the 6 years are up I'm afraid. What is a "F&F" offer?

F&F is a full and final offer, a sort of settlement which is lower than your initial set amount I believe.

Yup - are reduced full and final settlement offer.

This is not the same as a partial or short settlement - with these you pay off a lump sum (as you already have) and will need to repay the rest at a later date. The F&F offer allows you to pay back a negotiated % of the final figure with no liability for the remainder.

You need to make sure that you get written confirmation first though. There are a few templates on the board and on the nationaldebtline website if you need them.

It can sometimes help when you point out how many years they would need to wait to get the offerred % from monthly payments too.

    Hi ya,

Was it a job within a financial service?

I work within a financial organisation and we tell people up front to advise us if they have any defaults/CCJ's, usually they don't even offer you for interview if you say yes, however, I have known my company offer a guy a job on the condition that he cleared the defaulted accounts.

He did and they were ok with that, but checked his credit file quarterly to ensure that there was no repeat occurance.

Most banks/building societies/ finance providers run 'fit and proper' checks at least annually to ensure that the staff are not in financial difficulty.

Dear hammersfan 1, for this job as contractor to LTSB, did it have any proviso such as being cleared or registerd by the F.S.A. (financial services authaurity), or bonded.

I just wondered because I used to have had to dabble with employment law from time to time in one of my past incarnations. It seems bloody unfair for them to can you because of a CCA. Half of the "Business Men" I have worked for have had one or more bankruptcys at the back of them and nobody ever said a word to them.

It would be nice to get a line on them if you were unfairley refused the job after being accepted. Still wouldnt make up for not getting the job, It would be nice to see a few red faces.

    Best wishes, handyman123.

The job was in the bank but in the IT side. I would have much prefered to have been asked this up front and not been offered the job, accept it and then get crushed by not having it again!! I think my only hope is to get this CCJ satisified.

    Hi again Hammersfan,

I am really shocked that they didn't tell you upfront - for any role within a bank you HAVE to be checked out. We tell candidates at telephone interview stage and then againwhen they come to interview.

I would double check with the company first regarding settlement as sometimes even this won't be enough.

I would tell them your concerns though - they really should have told you at the first stages, it will save the comany time as well as stopping candidates being put through stress.

Hi, hammerfan 1, I thought it might be the case, Do you think it may be worth writing to the individual / Human resources at LTSB, asking if you would be considerd again once you have satisfied / removed the CCJ. And also stating you dismay at being misinformed at the interview stage that even though you had admited the CCJ, you were later refused the post.

    Regards handyman123.
