Now the footy season is nearly here we decided to think about upgrading our Telewest package again. (we cancel Sky Sports in the Summer months.)
Would change to Sky but don't want to change email address if I get rid of Telewest service. Also can't be bothered with the hassle.
In true moneysaving style I rang Telewest for a quote. Including telephone, broadband and the tv package it was £66 per month. I told them I had been offered a good deal on Sky and would like to know how to disconnect service. They gave me another telephone number for disconnections.
Using previous advise I was very nice to the cs person (in fairness she was very nice back.) Told her was pleased with Telewest service but unfortunately money was tight and Sky had offered a really good package and how did I go about disconnecting.
She offered me Sky sports and movies for half price for 4 months, gave us the basic channels (which is all we ever subscribe to) free for 12 months and told me I wasn't tied in in any way. I think if I had been cheeky I could have got more but I was trying to cook the eveing meal and had 3 kids in background. Plus I have a wireless internet connection so my choices are limited. Will ring back in 4 months when half price runs out and see what I get offered.
If you are in a similar position go on Sky website and see how much your existing package would cost with Sky then ring Telewest armed with this information.
Good luck
Anne

So technically you're advocating knowingly defrauding them? I always have a problem with this type of moneysaving, surely it's dishonest? Please don't get me wrong I'm not having a go at you in person I'm just uncomfortable with this type of moneysaving. What would happen legally to Martin/MSE if NTL/Telewest/Sky were to read this and produce a legal request to pass on user details to pursue the blatant fraud?Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.0

I don't consider I am defrauding them. I am shopping around and getting the best possible deal. I merely stated that Sky were offering a better deal and the cs girl said don't disconnect until you have spoken to the Disconnections section. What fraud is involved in that.
If they hadn't offered me a better deal I would have seriously thought about whether I should continue to overpay approx £15 per month compared to Sky services or go through the hassle of changing providers. They are happy as they are still making a profit off me and I am happy as I got a reduction.
In my opinion it is big businesses such as Telewest who are defrauding their customers as they know most people can't be bothered with the hassle of changing providers and can therefore continue to massivelly overcharge them.
I and others could get a much improved service if we changed to Sky with less to pay. I don't see any harm in telling Telewest that Sky can offer a much cheaper deal and that we would like to go to them.Money SPENDING Expert0 -

Dont be so silly. Be rest assured ALL companies like this would charge US much more if they could get away with it. You need a reality check.S!!!!horpe0 -

we are simply using our consumer spending power to our advantage for a change.
your supporting a monopoly, i bet you dont even believe that sky, ntl and telewest dont price fix at all??????!!!!!!!

Come on Davet I've just read your post on the Tesco Misprices thread where you have deliberately picked up an item that was incorrectly priced, gone through the checkout without saying anything to the cashier and then got an R+R. Not that I blame you for this, I'm always up for R+R and grateful to anyone who posts them, but don't criticise others for trying to get a good deal, quite honestly and legitimately in my opinion.
What is your motto, do not speak, unless it improves on silence!0 -
So I ask a simple question, clearly stating that it's just a personal uncomfortableness with this, expressively saying I wasn't blaming anyone and just wondering what would happen and I get accused of blaming people, told I need a reality check, something "more than a reality check" whatever that is and generally abused. It saddens me that you can't conduct an adult discussion without turning to anger. Again, it's not your fault, it just saddens me. In Love for all, DaveDo not speak- unless it improves on silence.0

No-one was angry. But I would have been angry had you called me a fraudster and dishonest, as you did to the OP.S!!!!horpe0 -
No I didn't, I explicitly said "Please don't get me wrong I'm not having a go at you in person I'm just uncomfortable with this type of moneysaving."Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.0

Hi,
must admit was rather shocked and upset when you said about me "knowingly defrauding" and "blatant fraud" etc.
I was chuffed about my money saving and just wanted to tell others who like me are proberley being overcharged to the hilt. Don't consider it in the slightest a fraud.
At the end of the day though we are all here to money save and I don't want to fall out over it.
Regards
