Hi all,
My husband and I went bankrupt two years ago and were discharged six months later. Basically we had a business that was really affected by the beginning of the recession and didn't have much choice.
But we've worked really hard to try and get back on our feet and have cleared up our credit files. At the moment we are living in accommodation provided for by my husband's job. We went to our bank (The Co-Op) today and they took great delight in telling us that we would not be able to get a mortgage for the full six years or a savings account.
We are both on a fairly good wage and would like to start saving now for a house... is this really true, will we have to wait the full six years before we can start to build our lives again?
Any advice would be really appreciated... xxx

Hi there yes it is a hard situation to get a mortgage for six years.
Most High st banks will say the same.
If you go to a specialist broker they may be able to help.
Some companys will give you a mortgage depending on your income and how stable it is.
The down side is intrest rates are high and deposits are required of up to 50% of purchase price.
Sorry cant make it sound any easier:)
