What happens when the bank closes your account?

Hi all,

Sorry if this is else where, also sorry as its probably a really stupid question....

But as the above says what happens when they close your bank account?

We have a natwest Step account which the OR has no interest in, its not been closed yet by Natwest. I'm not getting on too well with the Co-op so wanted to start using Natwest again, if in a few weeks/months they want to close it what happens to any money left in it? do i get it back or do they keep it?

Thanks
P x

You should take out the money before it is closed, otherwise you'll be waiting a while for them to send you a cheque.

I agree if they close the account they will send you the money by cheque and it will take a while.

Take out the money but leave enough to cover any DDs or transactions before closure or they will charge you.

    regards sizzler:)
  • thank you, told you it was a stupid Q ;)
  • Yeah, I still have my cheque for a whole 1p from the Halifax when they closed my last account, I am just waiting until it is near the 6 month life of the cheque then cash it in just to be a pain :)
