Have we discussed seasonal eating yet? We're coming into the great british season (my strawberries have set and I can't wait for the first one).

It's not easy in the winter and even I fold but for the next 4-6 months, buying fresh seasonal produce will be reduced. Asparagus season soon.

My strawberries have set too :D

Gotta find me a cheap source of Asparagus, I Adore it!!! It was £3 a small bunch in the supermarket today

I had to say no with a heavy heart.

Cooked with sliced and saut!ed Red Onion, celery, Fennel. Once they veggies are soft add fresh dill, white wine bring to boil briefly and season then lay the fish onto the veggie/wine mix. Pop the pan into a 200 degree oven for 10-15 mins, baste the fish with the juices every now and then. Once it's ready add some more pepper + salt if needed, garnish with a bit of reserved dill, serve with crusty bread.

that sounds really nice. i know nothing about fish but my neighbour goes sea fishing sometimes and has given me cod and pollock that he caught. Would that be suitable for this recipe?

well done on the whoopsie. i never seem to get anything reduced by that much!!! :T

I put my head in the whoopsie section today for the first ever time :j

Got in my mind an absolute bargain and it's already in our bellies! Monk fish fillet reduced from £7 to £2, I got two of them! Meant to freeze one but it looked so lovely that we had one each! So, not an inexpensive dinner but so good value to me.

Well done. That's an amazing bargain. :money:Nearly as good as my duck which we had as duck noodle soup tonight.

I LOVE monkfish and your meal sounds fabulous.

I agree with what others are saying about seasonal eating. It definitely reduces cost and there is no tastier veg than that which is local and in season.

I got 2 asparagus plants on Home Bargains for a £1 each in Feb/March, they are doing well, and although I don't expect to get much off them this year, next year it will be Asparagus all the way!

Pots? Planters? At the moment, I am using those flexible buckets you get from the DIY stores for my carrots, potatoes, asparagus, and the courgettes and tomatoes will be going in them soon, Our garden will more than double in size next year which will make a big change to life but the tubs do me fine just now. You'd be surprised what you can do in a small area, but you'd be better on the Gardening board for that!

you'll need more than 2 crowns to eat a lot of asparagus apparently. I grew three in anticipation last year and have been informed that people grow them in larger volumes than that. I knew there was a reason they are so expensive.

but back on topic, blanched asparagus with a bit of parma ham (or the lidl version) rolled over it. then a dribble of balsamic glaze.

    :D

Yes but I'm the only one in the house who likes it so there should (hopefully) be enough for me! (rubs hands in anticipation). Grilled Asparagus with organic soft boiled eggs for me. or sauteed in butter topped with black pepper and parmesan! I am hungry now........
