I wonna dye my hair red

Hi I am going to dye my hair red later on, I wanted a dark red (but not red/black) colour, I already have medium brown hair. Any idea on what the best brands are? Thanks, Gem x

  • Hi, i use loreal feria by preferance in plum power, its a deep red colour and looks amazing in the sun, i also find it easier to apply than some dyes i've tried as you apply it to damp/towel tried hair which is much easier than applying to dry hair if its long.

Have you had your hair red before? it tends to fade slightly quicker than most colours but you can get a shampoo from boots thats supposed to make it lst a bit longer, cant remember what its called though sorry, i tend to just reapply it about every 8 weeks.

Hey, I have pretty much the same colour hair as you and like the Boots Colour and Botancis ranges, I used the semi permanent range, they have a few different types of red. hth x

Hi yeah i've had it red before but I've always been a bit of a wimp and got "black red" or something, I want red red today haha. Superdrug do a fantastic shampoo in their own brand that helps keep red intense, ill find out the name when I get home :) its in a little grey bottle, costs about £1 and has roughly 3 applications per bottle if thats any help to anyone
  • personally - Id get it done at a salon - or training college - in case it went orange lol

Colleges are quite good - they are level 2 trained to dye hair which is same as toni and guy and are alot cheaper!

I made the school mistake once- the woman was actually a teacher, training other fully trained hairdressers from a very well known upmarket salon- she dyed a big orange stripe right across my fringe to make it "look like it was always shiney". My college teacher called me Jaffa until I left after that. Oh the shame! To be honest I would love to get it done in a training school but I work when they're open and can't get the time off. Also can't afford a salon sadly thanks for all your help :)
