Help with bank charges a weird Q please

ok after my 1st letter they have sent a full refund in gift voucher. This is for Studio cards and gifts. Cash would have been nice but im happy with the vouchers.
These charges were added to my hubbies account and a default was given. Now im thinking if theyve refunded the charges in gift vouchers should they remove the default?
This is what the letter they sent me said
As a gesture of goodwill and without prejudice I have enclosed vouchers up to the value of £180 to cover the costs of admin charges levied on the account.
Please accept my sincere apoligies for any inconvenience caused

Now this default is the only black mark on my hubbies credit file and id really like it removed.
Do I have the grounds now? What should I write in my letter to them any ideas anyone.?
I originally thought this would take ages to sort but in reality its been about 3 weeks. If I can get this removed it will really help as were just buying a new house
Many thanks

hi - I'm not sure about the default i'm afraid, vouchers are a strange thing to send? This means they are effectively forcing you to spend your own money with them!

With regards to Barclays I would carry on with the next stage (letter before action or court) and adjust your schedule of charges accordingly. I was refunded £90 by the Abbey - I just knocked £90 off the total and carried on. £12 isn't what they are allowed to charge - it is what they have decided to charge.

Carry on for the rest - don't give up!
  • I personally would refuse the vouchers and state that you want the MONEY refunded.

I think it's a right cheek to send you vouchers!

Actually, and with all due respect, this isn't strictly true. The OFT had said as part of their judgement that the maximum banks should charge is £12. I doubt whether you'd win a court case if you pressed for the rest.
