Good News and Not So Good News....

As of Friday, my mini-target for my credit card will be cleared – yay!!

On the flip side of that, my car is in the garage getting an MOT, which is going to set me back, what for it… £700!! :O I’m going to have to put that on my credit card as I don’t have that sitting around spare right now, but the good news is that because of the timing, this won’t incur any interest until the 11th June, provided I pay it in full by then. So…. Any idea’s how I can raise this money in this space of time? It works out at about £100 per week, which to me sounds loads, but any suggestions are gratefully received.

I ebay everything that isn’t pinned down as it is, so will have to do another sweep of the house to see what I can find, and I also have a couple of old mobiles I need to sell, via Quidco. Any other suggestions would be most welcomed – I wasn’t anticipating this £700 bill and was hoping to pay it to my loan to my relative as per my signature, but that’s not going to happen this month by the looks of things L

  • Bar job maybe if you have eve's weekends free? Turn around getting employed is usually quick, you could get paid weekly and maybe even make good tips too if you give the customers a winning smile :D.

Other than that - car boot perhaps? I did one last weekend and got £250 for a load of old junk!!! Ask family for anything they want to contribute.

Alternatively you could source the parts for your repair online (a LOT cheaper) and just pay for the labour to fit them. This may bring the cost of the repair down quite a bit!!

Thanks for the reply Little Miss Uni-Debt. I have a 2 year old daughter, work full time and am studying at uni 2 nights a week so free time is something of a rare commodity for me I'm afraid! I think I might try and do another car boot sale soon, as I managed to raise about £100 at that last time I did it.

The car is already at the local garage having the repairs done as we speak, I pick it up tomorrow. The annoying thing is my finance is a mechanic to trade, but trying to get him to actually do anything to my car is a nightmare.

Thanks for the suggestion df, I guess I could but I feel like that would drag it out longer than if I just put it on my card and work my butt off to pay it! Just not quite figured out how yet...

Hi Happytogetdebtfree, yes he is familiar with the garage, one of his old friends works there... actually might drop that into conversation, see if it gets a discount LoL. Joking aside, I am still a student until November, and I work not too far from the garage, so might see if they do student discount or give discount to our company.... will keep this updated!

Hey up mate, whats wrong with your wheels, the handyman has had 45 years fixing his own motors. If you can give me some idea of whats wrong I cant promise but I maybe able to offer some suggestion of help.

I'm getting a bit to old to crawl about under my own motor, but down here in scrumpy land my local garage only charges £25.00 p/h labour.

I will look in on you in the morning or pm me and I will do my best for you.

    Cheers, handyman123.
