Mine are only allowed to help themselves freely to the fruit bowl and squash. They occasionally have biscuits, crisps etc., as a treat, but I don't buy them on a regular basis, and they will ask before taking them.

Maybe you could have a designated "snack time" and dish them out at a set time rather than letting the children just help themselves?
Here I go again on my own....

I hide all the stuff in the tumble drier in the summer..no one looks in there! I am cutting down though as it seems to be me that likes the choccies too! (I can't keep blaming the kids)

    Some good ideas here!
I like the one with the box for each child system! wish I'd thought of that when mine were a bit younger(14 and 16)
I had the same problem of it all disappearing so I took to hiding it under my bed and only leaving a litle out at a time - that was untill I came home one day to be greeted by dozens of empty cake and biscuit packets in the hall and stairs:eek: someone had left the baby-gate open and our Jack Russel Nipper had gone upstairs and eaten the lot!!!! he had a big fat belly and I had visions of him bringing it all downstairs to the other 2 dogs who cant make it up the stairs - cant cope with the laminated floor and asking them " who wants a penguin then?":rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I have since moved it to the top of my wardrobe - perhaps he'll get a ladder next time!:D

    Taplady's Jack Russell:rotfl: :rotfl:

I wish my kids had been rationed - one would have been quite enough:rotfl:

I don't allow my lot to take food without asking, and I don't buy crisps and biscuits either, but I bake a lot so there is usually something nice around. What I need is help to stop me raiding the hm bakes - I'm really strict with the kids but completely lax with myself:o
  • This is so weird because I was thinking of posting a similar thread yesterday when I found that DD's had demolished all the food I had bought last week!! I have decided that once its gone its gone - they are not pleased but will have to wait until I next go shopping to get any treats. I refuse to buy more because the more I buy the more they will eat. I make HM stuff and find that that lasts longer, probably because it is more filling. Yesterday I made flapjacks with a box of Alpen which I have had for ages and they loved them! (8oz marg, 4oz sugar, 2 tbs of syrup, 10oz alpen and some porrdige oats mixed, pinch salt, 1oz of flour). I also made a fridge cake out of a packet of mini marshmallows and a load of old biscuit bits from the bottom of the tin which I blitzed and mixed with a bar of melted chocolate and a bit of margarine. They loved it but only at a little slice cos it was rich and took longer to eat than bought stuff.

We have a snack time and they are so used to it now that food is rarely asked for 'inbetween' times. It's about 10am for morning snack and after school or playscheme for the afternoon one. It's usually a piece of cake/flapjack and a fruit, or a carrot and some cheese.

That's exactly what we do, but somehow it doesn't stop them trying their luck:rolleyes:

One thing that helped re 'who ate all the cake?' was getting them to make cake or biscuits themselves. Then they wanted them to be rationed so all their hard work wasn't in vain.

It is easier for a child to raid a drawer or cupboard stuffed with crisps and chocs, not saying you do have, buit I know people who do and then bemoan the fact that their kids eat too much junk!
Mine are allowed as much fruit as they like within reason. Ds2 learnt the hard way when he sneaked and ate about 1lb of plums in one sitting. :):):)
