How is robbing the wealth of others to pay for lower paid people 'fair'?

Cast your mind back to the programs after the credit crunch autumn.
There were conversations with fund managers openly bragging they effectively paid less tax than the cleaners!
If this is still the case, even in diluted form, then surely is that an example of less fair ? Shouldn't someone on 120K pa still pay 40% effective rate?0 -
Where does fairness start?
If I own a business and earn £2000/week from it ... is it fair that I employ somebody on minimum wage to do all the grunt work, and leave them trapped in the office all day every day running my business while I swan off for long lunches in my Porsche and afternoons on the golf course? Or is it fair that I earn £1950/week and pay my poor worker another £1/hour?
There is only so much money in any organization and it's the top paid ones who decide how much the lower paid ones earn.... hardly fair is it.0 -

Well, that is more to do with them exploiting tax loopholes, rather than the taxation bands.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Interesting theory.
would you think that a family that has acquired and retained a high degree of wealth over generations is, in an overall context, genetically and behaviourly superior to those who have lived on benefits or have been low achievers for generations?
According to the genetecist Steve Jones, genes play a limited roll - he for example argues there will never be a fat or intelligence gene as such.
My view is my mate Brian was born with an empty brain as was the white horse. His impressional early brain receieved impressions which form his personality.
Now whilst some are lucky to be born with an ability to overcome childhood adversity, many are not.
So I come back to the tax point; Should Brian pay the same proportion as a rich person given he did not chose his parent or chaotic upbringing.
In whitehorse worl, what you need to do is damned well get on yer bike and sort your life out, incredibly simplistic dailywail think.0 -

I'm amazed that Baroness scotland and other prime redistributive socialists pay thier cleaners and housekeeps minimum wage.
There's one thing more sickening than toff that judge people by thier chattels, and that and income redistibution peddlar that hoardes.
Shirley Williams I know well - she's very wealthy and keeps millions of pund worth of property, but on radio 5 live said she believed in the teachings of Jesus Christ to share with the poor!!:A0 -

In the loaves & fishes parable - they weren't actually his to share out in the first place.
Jesus & Socialists - never happier than when they are sharing other peoples stuff out.US housing: it's not a bubble

Absolutely right, everyone is subject to human nature, even 'socialists'. Amazing how some people believe the hype of these people.0 -
Interesting theory.
Taking it one step further, (and back to the nature vs nurture debate) would you think that a family that has acquired and retained a high degree of wealth over generations is, in an overall context, genetically and behaviourly superior to those who have lived on benefits or have been low achievers for generations?

*before I get flamed, I do not know, but it's food for thought.
You can't be serious 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
So it is fair for a person on 10k to pay 50% tax, while a person on 100K pays 5%?
And before you say "they should get better jobs", please consider that there are a finite number of these better jobs and by definition, not everyone can do that!
you need to stop thinking about it in terms of a percentage of your income and think of it as a citizen charge for living in the UK.
the Govt needs to add up all the money it needs (less borrowing etc) and then divide it by the adult population. that is the charge.
if tesco asked how much you earned and put up their prices accordingly that wouldn't be very fair would it????
why is it with tax? unless you think a minimum wage cleaner should pay a smaller amount for their loaf of bread than someone who earns more?0
