Wrong tax code being applied

in Cutting tax
Towards the end of February I received a coding notice from HMRC informing me that my BR tax code for my pension was to change to DO. Knowing that this would be wrong I phoned up HMRC and they agreed that it should stay as BR.
On the 7th March I received the new tax coding notice confirming the change from DO back to BR - all well and good it seems.
But no. I have just received my first payslip from my pension provider and they are using DO. I would have thought that a code issued on 7th March would have been in time for an April pay run.
Who do I phone - the pension provider or HMRC?

Pension Provider first to see if they received the revised code and then HMRC if they say they didn't so that HMRC can reissue it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Pension provider ..... in the first instance.
My new code (right first time!) arrived sometime between 14 March and 2 April whilst I was on a cruise ...... but was applied to pay dated 12 Apr. So the timing shouldn't be a factor ..... but could be a bit of confusion with the multiple changes the average pension provider will have seen this year?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Thanks.
I'll give the pension provider a ring tomorrow and see what they have to say first.0 -
Well pension provider wasn't very helpful at all - mainly because the admin dept wouldn't even put me through to payroll!
Anyway I phoned HMRC to be told that when I spoke to the last adviser he had changed the code and sent me a new tax coding notice. Only trouble was he forgot to tick the box which also sent one to the pension provider!
They can only apologise and get it sent out now - next month I will obviously get a rebate but meanwhile I'm short of approximately £200 income this month!0 -
Whoops. Meant to say 'ring HMRC first ..... they've probably forgotten to tick the box'!

For goodness sake ..... why would there be a box to tick if a Code number changes? Why wouldn't you advise the payroll people automatically?
It's a bit like the daft websites that you go to and it says 'click here to enter'! Why would you have gone there in the first place if you didn't want to 'enter'!If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I'm impressed. I have been trying to ring HMRC for 3 days now and have been either disconnected automatically as they are too busy to take calls or I have waited in their queue for over 30 minutes several times with no luck.
Even worse it costs me to ring them.0 -
I suppose I should be happy - took me about 5 minutes to get through just after 9am this morning.
Not impressed though.0 -
I hope they've forgotton to send one to my payroll department cos despite me telling the IR on three separate occasions in January, February and March that they had issued me with the wrong tax code to collect tax I have already paid them in January through self assessment, they have still not done anything about it!0
