Help! Nephews christening!

Hey guys,
I've had a really bad day on here with horrid people, so please, go easy on me!
It's my nephew's Christening on 9th May (I really have a Nephew he isn't fictional as some people have suggested about other people I refer too), and I am Godmother too. So, I wanted to get him a little keepsake (Godmother - Godson) and a big pressie (Aunty - Nephew)
A guy at work (who is also real) suggested opening an account for him and putting a fiver a month in until he is 18 (total £1000+ what a gift!). Trouble is, when I am looking at types of accounts available they either seem to be for parents to open (i.e. Child Trust Funds), or for Kids to open themselves once old enough.
I could just contribute £5 a month to his Child Trust Fund and this is going to sound really daft, but I don't want to, cause then it will be, here son, here's the money off everyone from your lifetime. I want to be able to say on his 18th, here there's £xxx off your bestest Aunty, love you, go buy a car!
Hope you can see what I mean and offer any advice on that.
Also there's the small keepsake thing. I want to get an engraved St Christopher, as I think it's boy-ish enough for him to wear when he gets older.
What do you all think
xx

I think this is a fabulous idea.
Could you not open a bank account in his name, I think you would need to show them his birth certificate though (my auntie was able to do it this way for my daughter), or how about saving in a 'post office account' ???A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -
I have opened one for my little brother (27 year age gap - don't ask) in alliance and leicester but had to have his birth cert to open it. I buy him a small pressie for xmas birthday and easter ect and put money in it he is 6 and has about £300 in it so will have a nice ammount in it when he is 18. Also I sign the book so his 'mother' can't get her hands on it:happyhear YUMMY MUMMY TO HENRY BEAR AGED 10:happyhearslimming world need to get back to target 25lb to goDisney World here we come May 2018:j0

My daughter had premium bonds for her Christening too! Value doesn't go up but there's always the chance that he could win!!!
Here is a range of childrens jewellery with diamonds in. They also do boys styles. You can buy them anywhere, not just here. Search for the range on ebay (new) and they are half the price - I know I just bought one for my goddaughter to be (Christening a week on Sunday).

What fab ideas!
I had £100 put into a saving account (post office one) when I was christened and by the time I was ready for my first car (18/19ish) there was £500 in there (through interest). Sadly the man who opened the account for me had passed away (at a ripe old age!) but I still had a little think about how his gesture had allowed me to do buy something so significant.
If you cant open an account in his name just do it in your own but know that it is his account and untouchable and then it will be ready for present to him on his 18th
And the St Christopher is a great idea too! I know lots of people who carry them, one friend refuses to take hers off when she travelling. I think its so much harder to think of keepsakes for boys but I think you have done a great job0 -

Good plan, it's my little sister who is his Mummy and I don't think she'd ever dip in, but it's the Dad I'm not sure about
Thanks for the advice xx0 -

My sister opened an account for my children. She needed their birth cirtificates to do so. Speak to your own bank and see what they can offer you and once you have the lowdown, check out the other options as you will by then, know how to proceed.Proud to be Member of BSC #92Hoping to get debt free again :wall::heart2: working hard to make my daughters proud :heart2:0
