First Active Responsiveness

I have been trying to contact my mortgage provider First Active, part of RBS for 2 weeks now. I've called, held and now emailed with no joy.

I've held for up to 15 minutes before giving up.

I emailed in and I got a response saying that it is taking up to 5 days to return calls.

I got a letter saying recently that they were not offering mortgages and it seems to me like they are in some form of meltdown.

Does anyone have any insight?

Personally I do not think this service is acceptable to the main loan provider on your main assett.

Hi, we are with first active too. We also got a letter saying they were no longer doing new mortgages but this would not be effecting existing customers. It effects new mortgages only. I also have a letter from them regarding being a little late with our payment last month and have just tried the number and got through to them after about a 3 min wait. The number I called was 0845 30 30 200. I picked option number 3 which was for queries with account. It did say they were experiencing high call volumes but they didnt take too long.

I have also googled First Active (as I got a bit worried too lol) and found this article from the Telegraph - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/2787374/First-Direct-ceases-to-offer-new-mortgages.html

They seem to suggest (or First Acitve do) that they are not in trouble but do not want to continue to offer new mortgages at low rates and want to continue with the existing customers of which they appear to have a lot.

But I am not to financially savvy lol so no doubt someone with a little more information will be along shortly.

    :)

Oh yes, didnt even notice that sorry, maybe it has been on the cards for a long time then.

It does play a message on the phone when you call the above number saying " Please note that as of Monday 29th March 2010 First Active Mortgage will no longer be available to new customers. "

It does appear that they have been planning this for a long time x
