I've hit the crossroads with job and life

Not sure if anyone else is in my position but this is where i am, i'm in my thirties, unemployed and searching for a good job, i'm in good spirits despite being unemployed and although i never get stressed out or feel sorry for myself i do some times get fed up and frustrated trying to look for a decent job and looking for a path that will help me, i am not money motivated but don't want to work for peanuts, someone asked me what my ideal job is and being honest and realistic i am not that sure, it's easy for me to say i would love to be footballer but (a) i was never that good and (b) i am passed it now and like everyone else i would dearly love to win the lottery, but it's not going to happen (i think)!
I see jobs and i think oooh i would like to do that but once i see the requirements needed that's where my interest ends as i dont have the necessary requirements or the experience, i suppose i am in the fortunate predicament that i am...... not in debt, don't have a mortgage to pay for, don't have kids, i don't have any loans or outstanding bills to pay for, i am single and i have got some savings, probably some of you are thinking jammy thing but most of my friends have got careers and families and i seem to be stuck, i have tinkered about the possibility of working abroad but my last job which i had for the last 11 years is not wanted abroad, as i have explained there is nothing to tie me back here but i don't have the necessary skills or requirements that are mostly needed to work abroad.
Small rant over, nice to get if off my chest!

Swap it round. Rather than think (badly :-)) what you'd like to do, list your skills and work out what you can do.

Then look at the skills you will need to do what you want to do and see if it's feasible to go about getting them
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Work out what you realistically want to do ( with the help of a careers adviser ) and then plan a path where you can achieve this, by returning to education/training if necessary.

Working abroad will only be a temporary solution as the work you will be doing will be the same wherever you do it. You have around 30 more years of working life ahead of you so it makes sense to move into a job/career that satisfies you.

From where I'm standing - you have a very objective viewpoint on your life.:)

Most people dont - so thats one up to you:)

The one thing I can say - from what you've said - is that I rate your chances much more highly of making the best possible outcome from your situation from what you say than I would with many other people.

So - good luck to you.

I was in a similar position to you five years ago and really didn't know what to do after redundancy.

I ended up with a huge career change from a sales manager to a train driver, that took even me by surprise !

If money is not the primary thing then you are in a strong position as you can pick and choose a little.

What did you do previously ?
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

If there is a particular field you would like to work in go for it while you are free to make choices! To get more skills and experience take on some voluntary work, to get qualifications take some courses. Some college courses will be free as you are unemployed, if you want to go the whole degree route and do not already have one student finance is pretty generous.

I am in my thirties, single and unemployed too: today I have been on a half day workshop offered by our local NHS in partnership with the council. These are free and I will get a certificate for each one on the series which all adds to my CV, also I am networking with people who might be able to help with with finding employment. I am also involved in a local community group and through that have met someone who is keen to make me a director of a social enterprise he is starting up.

I can make all these things sound really impressive if I want, but actually you could do them standing on your head! I find once you learn about one opportunity it sort of snowballs and you hear about others.
