First time buyer mortgage with poor credit

Hi all,

I'm a first time buyer looking get a mortgage and, whilst I have a sizeable deposit (25%) and have been debt free for several years, I'm finding it hard to get approved for a mortgage due to a poor credit history in the past. According to my credit report I have had a number of missed payments on credit cards and one or two defaults, all of which have been subsequently settled (about 2-3 years ago).

Are there still any slightly less than prime mortgage lenders out there these days? Does anyone know of anything I can do help my situation other than wait, stay in the black and try again several years down the line?

Any help much appreciated!

    Hi,

I would suggest you try Halifax, they can be less fussy than most lenders. If not Kensington will do it for you but they charge higher rates
