I know you can use to scratch off grease i as i do on my ceramic hob, so it got me thinking about using as a natural scrub but not too harsh and easier than salt of which i get everywhere
Anyone done this with any noticeable improvement or rave reviews and most importantly should i be doing it?

I have a Venuzuelean friend who uses bicarb as a face scrub, when she went in to BS to have a makeover they all complimented her on her great skin and asked what she used - you should of seen their faces when she told them nothing but baking soda! I've tried it myself a few times recenty and it works suprisingly well. It's supposed to balance your ph levels or something. Generally I use the OCM now - but stopped buying expensive facescrubs and just use the bicarb when I feel my face needs a bit of a scrub. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0

I thought it might be drying thats why i wanted to see any feedback, i had a google on it and quite a few have good things to say about it and they say you make into a paste sort of thing.
So i'm game and your venuzulan friend has swayed me, and i'll give it a go tonight...bet they were shocked at that in the BS i mean how much is it 60 odd pence0 -
Well i tried it and have to say its fab for me, its really gentle but gets my skin feeling really soft and dead squeaky clean, you know when you rub your finger up it and it makes a squeak noise well like that
I have been doing it couple times a week and really do like it...i'm sure its get rid of some blocked pores i had on my nose....i know eww but i have biiigggg pores!
If i leave it on for a bit after i've scrubbed my skin does go all tingly...not sure if thats a good or bad thing
But i'm sticking with it for being cost and effective.0 -
Well you've inspired me OP. I have been thinking about making my own scrub for a while now, and thought about sugar (sticky), or salt (ouch). Never thought of Bicarb until I read this thread.
So...I melted a some Shea butter, coconut oil, EVO oil and Castor oil, added some essential oils and then a bit of bicarb. I had to mess around with the consistency a bit as it was a bit too "srubby" at first so added some more shea. Used a muslin cloth to wash it off.
To cut a long story short....it has left my skin so soft and nice, really fantastic results (and fairly cheap).
*But like any scrub avoid eye area.0 -
Glad you liked it, your scrub sounds lovely...i never thought of adding other bits and i have some shea and coconut oil, might add a drop of lavender too, cheers for the idea :T0

Bit out of date now, I know, but I've just seen this thread.
I've been using bicarb as a face scrub for a few years now. People compliment me on my good skin (I'm in my 40s).
I use a foaming face wash first, then put about a teaspoon of bicarb in the palm of my wet hand, rub it between both hands, then massage it gently around my face and shower or splash it off straight away.
The great thing is that you can control the pressure you use with your hands/fingers, so it doesn't feel uncomfortable.
I do this 2 or 3 times a week.0 -
That's a great idea. I was waiting for a delivery of amla powder(vitamin C) to use as a face scrub, but it looks like I may already have a cheaper version sitting in my house!0

I love this idea!! When my St Ives is gone I'll definitely try this and it helps with my No Toiletries challenge.
I suppose if you already use OCM you could add a bit of bicarb to the oil in your hand every now and again to cleanse and scrub in one go? I'm also keen to try OCM.0 -
This is great to know, i'm 36 and started with it so hopefully be glowing in my 40's then
.
I feel its making a difference and i feel really clean and refreshed and MSElesley1966 wrote: »Bit out of date now, I know, but I've just seen this thread.
