They get books at discount (or used to last time I lost one!), also they might not replace like for like, so I'd advise talking to them. I think they might freeze the fines for a while too, to encourage you to keep looking and hand it in if it turns up.

I lost a library book recently (by dropping it in the bath) and was given the choice of replacing it or paying them.
They were very understanding about it!
  • With fines my understanding max is £6 i.e. it is not unlimited. Come clean Im sure they will be reasonable :)

i lost my first library book ever late last year
i told them and had choice to replace or pay them to replace it
i replaced it and it was $8.99
they would hae charged me $10
so not much in it and if its difficult to source then let them take the strain.
they were really good about it
i reckon every day someone loses a book somewhere in the whole of the uk library system:)
    63 mortgage payments to go.

I lost one a couple years ago and they wanted to charge me full pice (£21.99) to replace it. Go it off Amazon for £6.99 :)

I lost one ages ago and they sent me the bill for a full price replacement! I'm sure if you talk to them they'll be a bit more reasonable?

I've lost one before (left it on holiday) and just talk to them: this happens all the time and they're used to it. It's honestly not a big deal to them, so don't worry about it, just go have a chat :)
