Green as grass, it would be useful to know what size system you are having installed and how much it is costing you......There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

green as grass, did I scare you off with that request?

Changing the subject just a little......................has anyone yet had any experience of Tesco in their new role as solar PV installers?0

Hi All
Interesting article http://www.pv-tech.org/news/_a/soaring_solar_demand_in_germany_leads_to_unforeseen_circumstances_in_uk/
I knew that there were currently restrictions on GTIs (and certain panels) but had been informed by various sources that this was now over and most units were in free supply, elsewhere I've read that increases in production capacity will clear all backlogs by October, but the referenced article seems to be ..... interesting
Makes you think seriously about negotiating changes to standard system payment terms before locking into a provider by placing an order ....

If we only use, say, half a tank of water a day, then it is pointess heating the whole tank to a higher temperature, as the following day (if the sun comes out to play) there would be no differential between tank and panels, therefore the circ pump would not run. half a tank at 55C should be enough for most households.[/QUOTE]
I'm not sure I understand the point you're making here in your reply to my question. Are you saying that generally your tank gets hot enough for your needs so you're not worried if you don't 'harvest' the extra heat that may be available on some fine days? If so, why are you so disappointed with your system?
You ask for details of my system - I think I posted them earlier in this thread but no problem to repeat them.
I will have 60 evacuated tubes feeding into a 300 litre thermal store. The store has two solar coils, with heat feeding into the top coil initially to provide rapid usable heat, then will divert to the bottom coil to heat the remainder of the tank. This second coil will act as a primary heat dump, but also provide some benefit in tiding us over periods of cloudy days when little input is provided by the EV tubes.
A woodburner back boiler will provide input to the store during the winter months.
I've paid £2500 for the components and an installation training day.
I'm sure you'll instantly realise that I'm not aiming for a short payback period - my priorities are more concerned about energy security, environmental benefits and a useable system requiring minimum input from fossil fuels.
What is the reason for your request? Are you planning to work out what it will cost compared to a gas boiler? I'll be very interested.0 -
60 tubes......are you running a care home with that lot,
DIY will not qualify for the RHI
I would have spent that money on an air to water heat pump
I got a full tank of very hot water for free today....50p worth....47 years to go.
210 Litres, cannot store any more, we won't even use all of that tomorrow.
what is the point of harvesting more than you need, from one sunny day to the next can be over a week in this country...300 Litres will get used up fairly quickly or cool down or have to be re-heated by your boiler.
I'm not dissapointed with my set up, it works fine, if I wasn't planning to install PV I would leave it up there, however I need the roof space.
I factored the cost of my panels when building the house and as a planning permission requirement for 20% renewables.
I wish you wellThere are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

"60 tubes......are you running a care home with that lot,"
No, but my girls and wife do love their baths!"I got a full tank of very hot water for free today....50p worth....47 years to go."
At current energy prices."what is the point of harvesting more than you need, from one sunny day to the next can be over a week in this country...300 Litres will get used up fairly quickly or cool down or have to be re-heated by your boiler."
You give the answers yourself, really. To tide over cloudy days and minimise having to light the fire. Also to extend the useful heating season into early autumn, late spring. I bought the thermal store with max insulation (100mm foam) and will add more to that to minimise cooling down."I wish you well"
Likewise.
PS. So proud I've finally learned how to do proper quotes and colour!!0 -

I'm still waiting to be given a date for a site visit several weeks after applying but I see today someone on the Navitron forum has actually got their quote via Tesco, £15000 for 24 panels all in. Although reading the thread it's been pointed out that number of panels quoted would take the install over the 4kW limit for the top rate of FIT's.0 -

AFAIK, Tesco are using the roof/cavity wall insulation company 'Mark Insulation Ltd'........that'll be interesting!!There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Yes my survey will (eventually) be carried out by 'The Mark Group' however I suspect given their buying power that the panels and inverter will be supplied by Tesco themselves hence their ability to advertise fixed prices ie fitting by whoever gets the job will be labour only.0
