Mops..

Options
I need a new mop, we have laminate downstairs and slate in the bathroom so one that will do both is great.

Can anyone recommend one? Someone mentioned the JML one yesterday, which sounded interesting. Will have to get it tonight as my floors are revolting. :o

Whilst we're on the topic need a new ironing board too (DH dropped it), I'm 6 foot and want it to be quite a decent one but not too expensive. £30-£35?

Ta!!

ive tried most mops and the one im loving at the mo is a microfibre one £5 from instore ( £ stretcher)

it has a washable pad that you wet and attach to the ( adjustable) handle / pole

it works fab on laminate & my tiled kitchen floors :)

I picked up one from Selkin at the Ideal Home Show and it's brilliant. A U-shaped roll of blue dense foam which is squeezed out by a lever on the metal pole. You ensure the foam is thoroughly soaked in water first, but it mops up efficiently and leaves the floor practically dry.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

When I'm skint and need a new mop, I just use an old dishcloth wrapped round my sweeping brush, any stubborn filth I do it by hand

Liz, I considered doing this with my microfibre cloth until I could get the right one. May have to resort to that tonight, can't be bothered to go out after work.

    Hi All,

My SIL has bought the Flash system that you see in store with a bottle of premixed flash that you click in and can then spray around and clean with disposable pads which fit onto the mop. The basic mop cost £20!!!!! and the bottle of flash and the cleaning pads are dear as well and cant be reused!!!!!!!

Now, while I love the idea cause it means no bucket/wringing out of mop etc the cost is absolutely prohibative. I bought a similar system in asda which is called "leifheit hausrein". It is a mop just the same as the flash one but the bottle can be filled with your own mixture every time as there is a cap on it. You can buy pads for it but I put on my microfibre cloths and wash them afterwards as the mophead is such that you can attatch anything by way of cloths to it for cleaning. This system cost me £9 and is guaranteed for 3 years!!!!!!!!!

    I love it,
    Al.

I've given up with mops and new fangled substitutes. It's much quicker (and more thorough) to get down on your hands and knees and go over the floor with some stardrops and a microfibre cloth. Mind you, I've only got a very small kitchen floor!

Hi, Mimi! I'd recommend a microfibre mop. I got mine some years ago from Lakeland, but there are cheaper ones out there now. I use it on tiled floors and wooden ones. They're great, as you don't need to use a bucket with detergent in - the microfibre does it without. Also, you can wring the mop head out tightly, so that the wood is wiped, rather than being soaked.

I personally use a Vileda mop which cost about 5.99 from Morrisons. It works well on my laminate floors.

Be careful not to use too much water on your laminte it will swell and crack if it gets too wet. I use a microfibre cloth on a vileda mop that you push cleaning cloths into to secure it. Wring the cloth out really well and mop the floor and then go over it with a dry cloth........
