Letter from DCA

I have contacted 2 of the 3 main credit reference agencies and there is nothing old outstanding on my account and all current debts are showing up to date.
Having checked my credit files I can see that they can easily link my names and addresses. The question is why are they only trying to contact me now? I would guess that they have bought the records and alleged debt, rather than have it referred by the creditor??
The DCA that sent the letter was SRJ Debt Recoveries, and having read on here about similar letters being sent and their procedures, I think I will wait and see if they try and contact me again.
Thank you everyone for your help!Challenges 2014

Hi,
I have now received another letter detailing the creditor (Sky) and the amount (<£40).
I have every reason to believe everything with Sky was cleared up at the time of cancellation.
I had to have the dish removed for some work that needed doing on the property and the landlord requested the dish not to be re-installed. This was a number of years before I moved.
Please can someone advise if it would be best to contact Sky and ask about the account status, bypassing the DCA, or send the prove-it letter to the DCA?
Thanks in advance.Challenges 2014

I would probably go with the prove it letter, as they have just stated you owe sky £40. They have not actually 'proved' that you owe this money yet.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Even if they can prove the debt - do consider whether it may be statute barred, if you moved in 2006 and the sky was cancelled a few years before that it sounds like the debt could be statute barred (6years with no payment from you and no written acknowlegdement from you and providing there is no CCJ).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
