First Direct Mortgage - Query regarding Processing

I've just received a text from First Direct to say they had received my mortgage application and expect to complete processing in approximately 4 to 5 weeks. I'm just wondering what "processing" means. I did the initial application over the telephone at which point they did credit checks and confirmed mortgage in principle. I've sent off signed Offer Form and Valuation Request.
Has anyone got any experience of a First Direct mortgage application? All going well, can I expect funds to be released at the end of the 4 to 5 week timescale?
