Endowment reclaim
Comments

OK - I appreciate everyone (or most) are trying for me here, so i shall try and provide as much info as possible.
I bought my first house at the end of May 1988, so I guess i signed up for the endowment mortgage just prior to. I seem to recall the mortgage was sold to me by the lender who was at that time Abbey National (now Santander), but the policy is with Scottish life. They told me some years ago that there was a shortfall, but i didn't think at the time it was sufficient to cause me any major problems. I guess I need to double check my latest statement.
As for the sale of the policy, well its really difficult to recall exact words spoken, but i DO recall taking the interest only option over the repayment option because i was told that not only will i get a lump sum to pay off my mortgage, but i will probably get some extra also, so it seemed like a sensible investment at the time!
I am not sure how I can show this though and will have to dig out some original documentation... assuming that is, that it will all be worth the effort, which is why i'm posting in the first place.
One of my main questions is also the fact that i no longer NEED it to pay a mortgage off, am i still entitled to such compensation
Thanks again.0 -

IIRC, Abbey never had any links with Scottish Life. So, that would mean it was an IFA, accountant or solicitor that would have been used.
The date is important as well as its the date you applied. Not the date it went on risk (started). If you signed the application forms before 29th April 1988 then its before consumer protection began.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I'm quite certain that the deal was made in May 1988. I moved in to the house at the very end of May. I also recall I obtained the Interest only mortgage from within the Abbey National and the same person who sold me the mortgage, suggested the policy. I definately didn't go elsewhere for the policy!
So, where do I go from here? - Do I make a claim?
Many thanks for all your advice.0
