The only thing that I found that ever helped to prolong a colour was to avoid washing it for at least 48 hours after having it coloured. For me that seemed to stop it from fading.
What colour is it? Aveda (and more MSE brands) have shampoos that enhance colours and may help to keep your hair looking fresh.0 -
I've used herbal essenses for coloured hair and elvive for coloured hair and both have prolonged the colour - I went 6 months between needing to do it!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
You can buy coloured shampoos & conditioners for different hair colours. I'd avoid Toni & Guy as I find they make my hair feel horrible and difficult to comb through.0

I'd say just get any shampoo and conditioner which reads "for coloured hair" or words to that effect. The main ones to stear clear of are shampoos for oily hair or Pantene and John Freida Frizz Ease have been known to add to colour fade- but be aware that with most colours you will get some fading, expecially for reds.0

Hi summer and welcome to MSE!
Not that it's sunny today , but protecting it from the sun with a hat or scarf on holiday or when sun-bathing makes a big difference too. I've just come back from hols and my dark colour is noticeably lightened on the top compared to the underneath layers (which is Ok by me as I'm trying to lighten the colour gradually anyway, so will go down a shade next time I have the roots done now!)
There are also products you can buy to protect the colour from the sun, although I've not tried them or maybe just comb colour protect conditioner through your hair and leave it in on the beach/ at the pool0 -
I don't colour my hair anymore and the colour has long since all grown out so my hair is 100% natural, but sometimes it looks a bit dull and I like to try and get the shine back.
I was in my local Superdrug the other day and they had an offer on TRESemme Colour Thrive shampoo and conditioner. They were large bottles, 900ml I think, and it was £3 for two bottles. I got one bottle of shampoo and one conditioner in the brunette range. Very MSE as even with my waist-length hair, I think the bottles will last quite a long time. Here's a link to the only product I could find in that range on the Superdrug website:

I used it this morning and haven't had much of a chance to look at my hair colour properly yet but it definitely looks a bit 'brighter' than normal. Maybe my imagination but I hope not!
It says it works both on coloured and natural hair so might be worth a go?
