I have no credit rating?
Helloo
I've been lurking here for ages, learning the art of moneysaving. I wanted to apply for a credit card and do a bit of stoozing so I checked my credit rating online with Experian...
They told me they couldn't verify me electronically and so I am supposed to send a passport, birth certificate, bank statements etc. I checked Martin's article, and I am on the electoral roll etc.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
I am 24, doing my MA, living in rented accommodation. I have a few bank accounts, overdraft and ISA etc.
Thanks

My fiancee experienced this also.
The way experian (and equifax) verify you electronically is to ask you a series of questions relating to recent credit acivity.
For example, when I signed up for experian I was asked multiple choice questions such as which companies I had a loan with, who I had a credit card with, how much of a balance I had on a particular credit card, how much my monthly loan repayments are etc.
If you don't have any such credit history then they cannot verify you by asking these questions. I assume that is why have to send in the relevant documents.
I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about. My partner sent in the documents and had access to her credit report online pretty quickly.
Hope this helps.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -
I also had to do it by post rather than online because of the confusion on the questions of knowing the name of actual lenders for 0% finance on store purchases etcAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
